Youth Work Mission

It’s Their Mission

Our Youth Work Mission Program is in its 23rd year and we have led trips in almost every direction. Our youth-led program allows the youth to do most of the decision making and trip planning and helps them develop responsibility and leadership skills.

The youth learn to put their faith into action by serving their neighbors and sharing the love of Christ.

On past trips, we have:

  • Built wheelchair ramps, porches and decks
  • Painted
  • Power washed
  • Repaired houses
  • Revamped a summer camp
  • Helped build a church
  • Given new life to old buildings.

Youth participants must have completed the 6th grade.  All of our adult leaders are screened and have been background checked.

We are very excited to partner with the Westlake UMC and the Simpson Metro West Campus.  The mission trip is July 7-13, 2019.

We will and will travel to serve at the Cass Community Social Services Center, located at 11745 Rosa Parks Blvd. Detroit, MI 48206.

According its Facebook page, Cass Community Social Services is a Detroit nonprofit that assists people living in areas of concentrated poverty by offering food, housing, health care and jobs. Cass prepares and serves one million meals a year. It provides shelter and affordable housing for 285 homeless people nightly. It offers both a free medical clinic and medication monitoring for residents. The agency's Green Industries employs 80 adults with significant barriers to work and will soon employ 25 youth.

The Cass Center has developed a number of initiatives to help support Detroit’s homeless and impoverished citizens.  We will have the opportunity to serve our neighboring city in a variety of ways. Some of its projects include the following:

    • Affordable Housing: Buy and rehab houses and apartment buildings
    • Tiny House Project: A neighborhood of Tiny Homes (250 - 400 square feet)
    • Adult Day Care Center: Serving neighborhood senior citizens
    • Green Gym: Eco gym with stationary bikes which generate electricity for the Cass power grid
  • Green Industries: Reclaim used tires to be shredded and re-used to make flip flops and automobile floor mats
